The short version

  • Analogue has announced the Super Nt+ (for SNES cartridges) and the Mega Sg+ (for Sega Genesis and Mega Drive cartridges).
  • Each costs $219.99, about ₹20,900 converted. Analogue hasn't listed an India price or said whether it ships here.
  • Pre-orders open October 19, and shipping is expected to start in December.
  • New this time: built-in wireless controller support, USB-C power and a USB-A port.

What these consoles are

Both play your original cartridges on a modern TV over HDMI. They don't use software emulation. Instead, they use an FPGA, a chip that can be set up to behave like the original console's hardware, circuit by circuit.

The Super Nt+ supports over 2,200 Super NES and Super Famicom cartridges, and it's region-free. It outputs up to 1080p and has aspect ratio, scaling and scanline options for getting the look right.

What's new over the originals

These Plus versions keep the idea of Analogue's earlier Super Nt and Mega Sg and add a few modern fixes:

  • Wireless controllers: Bluetooth and a low-latency 2.4GHz mode are built in, for up to two controllers, so you don't need an adapter.
  • USB-C power: this replaces the older power connector.
  • USB-A port: used for peripherals, including a DAC for audio.
  • New design: the case has been reworked, and the Super Nt+ comes in three colours: Classic, SF and Black.

It's still 1080p, not 4K like the Analogue 3D. There are no save states or screenshots either.

Who it's for

On paper, these are for people who already own a shelf of SNES or Genesis cartridges and want them on a modern TV. If you just want to play the classics, Nintendo Switch Online's retro library is far cheaper.

For Indian buyers, the bigger cost is getting one here. With no local listing, import shipping and customs would add to the converted price.

What to watch: pre-orders on October 19, and whether Analogue ships these to India.
