Xbox's Next Generation Is a 'Family of Devices', With a Console First

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told staff that Project Helix is a family of devices, led by a console. Here's what's confirmed, and which spec leaks are still rumors.

The short version

  • Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told Microsoft staff that the next generation ("Gen-10") will be a family of devices, not one box.
  • A console comes first. Portable devices follow, some built with hardware partners.
  • No price, name or date has been announced. Reports point to 2027 to 2028.
  • Spec and price leaks (56 TFLOPS, 240 FPS, $1,000+) are unconfirmed.

What Xbox actually said

The comments came from an internal town hall, first reported by Windows Central. Sharma's key line: "We will certainly have a great console first, but we also know that many players will be on the go."

She also said "there is not one device that fits all", and that Microsoft will build some hardware itself and partner on the rest. We've seen that model already: the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds are made by ASUS, not Microsoft, and they look like the template for the portable side.

The other confirmed piece is software. Sharma said the operating system "is starting to look really good", which fits Xbox's push to blend console and Windows PC gaming. Microsoft had already said at GDC 2026 that developers get early Helix hardware in 2027.

What's still rumor

This is where to slow down. None of the following comes from Microsoft:

  • 56 TFLOPS for the Helix console, against a rumored 40 TFLOPS for PS6. Both come from leaker KeplerL2, who has a solid record on AMD chips.
  • Chips taped out. Same source. Tape-out means the chip design is finished and sent to be manufactured. It's a milestone, not a launch date.
  • Up to 240 FPS through an upgraded FPS Boost, and a price above $1,000. These come from smaller sites with no named source. Treat them as the shakiest part of the picture.

Why it matters

On paper, "console first" is the reassurance Xbox fans wanted, after a run of reports that the next Xbox leans heavily toward Windows PC. The open questions are the ones that decide whether people buy: price, exclusives, and whether your current library carries over. What to watch: an official Helix reveal. Microsoft has said nothing about timing beyond developer hardware in 2027.
