Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Brings Edgerunners 2 to Night City: Dual Wielding, Console Mods and a New Quest

CD Projekt Red's free Edgerunners 2 update adds a prequel side quest in a Night City prison, dual-wielding pistols, mod support on consoles, a new radio station and DLSS 4.5. Here's everything in update 2.5, how it ties into the new anime, and where Cyberpunk 2077 stands six years on.

The short version

  • Update 2.5, the Edgerunners 2 Update, came out on October 22 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Switch 2 and the Mac App Store version get it in the days after.
  • It's free for anyone who owns Cyberpunk 2077, which has now sold 40 million copies.
  • The big additions: a prequel side quest to the anime, dual-wielding pistols and revolvers, mod support on consoles, and a new radio station.
  • It landed two days after Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premiered on Netflix on October 20, with all ten episodes out at once.

Why there's another update at all

CD Projekt Red had said an earlier patch would be the game's last big update. Then the anime came back. The first Edgerunners, in September 2022, sent Cyberpunk's player count soaring almost two years after its troubled launch, and turned a lot of people's opinion of the game around. Update 2.5 is a bet that a second season can do the same.

The numbers say the game has more than recovered. CD Projekt says Cyberpunk 2077 has sold 40 million copies and the Phantom Liberty expansion 15 million. In India, it's a regular in Steam and PlayStation Store sales.

The new quest

The headline content is a side gig from fixer Wakako called Clampdown. It's set in a new location, a Night City prison, and works as a prequel to the new anime season. Finishing it earns a five-piece outfit and a revolver based on one of the show's characters.

There's a second new side quest, Welcome to Paradise: a guided city tour narrated by radio host Richard Night, unlocked at Street Cred level 15. It's a lighter piece of content, but a good excuse to see parts of Night City you might have driven past.

Dual wielding and console mods

The Double Trouble perk lets V hold a pistol or revolver in each hand. Four extra perks build on it, and Photo Mode gets new dual-wielding poses. For anyone who's played a pistol build, this is the biggest change to how combat feels since update 2.0 reworked the skill trees in 2023.

Mod support is the other big change. Mods now run through mod.io with an in-game Mods menu, and that works on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, as well as PC and Mac. Console modding usually stops at a handful of official tools, so this is a real step. One catch: on console, you can't earn trophies or achievements from a modded save.

Everything else

  • HKGN 102.0 FM, a new radio station with music from both Edgerunners seasons.
  • Glamdoc clinics in five spots, where you can restyle V's cyberware hands, plus five new clothing sets and 20 new hairstyles.
  • 12 Minor Arcana tarot cards to collect, which extend the existing tarot side story.
  • A field of view slider on consoles, save files grouped by playthrough, and filters for your stash.
  • On PC, DLSS 4.5 with Multi Frame Generation. FSR 3 upscaling is gone, while FSR 4, FSR 2.1 and FSR 3.1 frame generation stay. Xbox players also get Xbox Play Anywhere, so saves carry over between console and PC.

There are bug fixes too. One stopped the Switch 2 version from failing to save with an "insufficient space" error. Another fixed Delamain's cab getting stuck and blocking a quest.

Where Phantom Liberty fits

None of the new content needs the expansion. But if you're returning after a long break, Phantom Liberty is still the game's best-reviewed content, and its spy-thriller story sits well alongside the new prison quest.

Why it matters

This is the second time CD Projekt has used an anime launch to bring players back, and the timing is smart again: watch the show, then jump in for a prequel story. On paper, console mods and dual wielding give returning players more to do than a single quest would.

The update is out now on PC, PS5 and Xbox. Switch 2 and Mac owners should check for it now if it hasn't arrived. And if you're picking the game up fresh, the next Steam or PS Store sale is the time to do it.
