The short version
- The Verge's Tom Warren reported on October 29, 2026 that Bethesda's next game is called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, citing sources familiar with the plans.
- Xbox could reveal the name as soon as November. VGC and Gematsu link the timing to Skyrim's 15th anniversary on November 11.
- The game is reportedly set in Hammerfell, the desert homeland of the Redguards, though the setting isn't expected to be announced with the name.
- Nothing is official. Bethesda hasn't commented, and there's still no release date, platform list or price, in India or anywhere else.
What the report says
The claim comes from Tom Warren at The Verge, a long-time Microsoft and Xbox reporter who has broken plenty of Xbox news before. According to his sources, the full title is The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The name could be made official as soon as next month.
VGC and Gematsu, which both picked up the report, point to November 11 as a likely moment. That's the day Skyrim turns 15, and Bethesda tends to mark the date. That link is the outlets' reading, though, not a confirmed reveal date.
The sources also reportedly told The Verge where the game is set: Hammerfell. The report adds that the game will dig into the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves, the ancient prophetic scrolls the series is named after, and help uncover their secrets. The setting reportedly wasn't planned to be announced alongside the title, so don't expect a full reveal in November even if the name lands.
On paper, this is a credible report from a reporter with a strong Xbox record, but it's still unconfirmed. Treat it as a strong rumour until Bethesda says something.

The eight-letter clue
There's a small hint that fits. On August 11, 2026, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma visited Bethesda Game Studios and posted on X about a "live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls VI" with the subtitle hidden behind eight asterisks. She added that the scale was incredible and the story "even greater". Sentinel has eight letters. That proves nothing on its own, but it lines up with the report.
What Sentinel is in Elder Scrolls lore
Sentinel isn't a made-up word for a subtitle. In the series lore, it's a great Redguard city, the capital of the kingdom of the same name. According to the fan wiki UESP, it sits in the north-western hills of Hammerfell, overlooking the Iliac Bay. The city has appeared in Arena, Daggerfall and The Elder Scrolls Online, and it's long been a major trading port.
Hammerfell itself is the province west of Cyrodiil, home of the Redguards. It's mostly desert, including the Alik'r, with mountains to the north and the sea on its coast. Fans have guessed at Hammerfell and High Rock for years, mostly because the 2018 teaser showed rocky coastline and cliffs. Former Bethesda designer Bruce Nesmith said earlier this month that he hopes the game is set around the Iliac Bay, because it could add boats and seafaring. If Sentinel is the name, that guess looks closer than ever.

Eight years since the teaser
Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls VI at E3 2018, with a short teaser and the note that it was in pre-production at Bethesda Game Studios. Since then the studio has shipped Fallout 76 updates and Starfield, and Microsoft bought Bethesda's parent ZeniMax in 2021. Microsoft documents that leaked during the 2023 FTC case listed The Elder Scrolls VI as 2026 or later.

Skyrim, released in November 2011, is the last main entry. That gap is a big part of why a single word in a report is making so much noise.
What we still don't know
- Release date or window. None has been reported.
- Platforms. Not confirmed. Microsoft now releases many of its games on PS5 too, but it hasn't said anything about this one.
- Price. No price anywhere, so no India price either.
- Where the reveal happens. The report only says "as soon as November".
The date to watch is November 11. If Bethesda marks Skyrim's anniversary with an Elder Scrolls VI announcement, we'll know quickly whether Sentinel is real.
