Phantom Blade Zero Sells 4 Million Copies in 72 Hours and Passes 820,000 Players on Steam, Beating Marvel Rivals' Record

S-GAME says Phantom Blade Zero sold more than 4 million copies across PS5 and PC in its first three days. On Steam it peaked above 820,000 players at once, ahead of Marvel Rivals and Battlefield 6, and it costs ₹4,299 on Steam in India. Here's what the numbers mean, how they compare with Black Myth: Wukong, and what's still unknown.

The short version

  • Phantom Blade Zero sold more than 4 million copies in 72 hours, developer and publisher S-GAME announced on November 2.
  • On Steam it peaked at about 822,000 players at the same time, higher than the all-time records of Marvel Rivals and Battlefield 6.
  • It's out on PS5 and PC. On Steam in India it costs ₹4,299 (US $59.99).
  • S-GAME's announcement graphic also lists a Metacritic score of 88 and an 89% positive Steam rating.

What S-GAME announced

S-GAME posted the milestone on social media on November 2, a few days after the game's October 28 launch. The message was short: over 4 million copies sold in 72 hours, with a thank-you to players. The studio didn't split the figure by platform, so we don't know how much came from PS5 and how much from PC.

That's a big number for any game, and Phantom Blade Zero is S-GAME's first big-budget release. The Chinese studio's wuxia-style action RPG follows an assassin framed for murder, and it has been in the works for years.

The Steam numbers

Concurrent players means how many people were playing at the same moment. It's not sales, but it's the most public signal of how big a PC launch is.

GamesRadar+ reported a Steam peak of 822,361 using Steam Charts data. Before that, Game World Observer had reported 731,026 on October 30, which already put it 15th in Steam history. The jump since then moves it past several big names:

GameAll-time Steam peak
Elden Ring953,426
Hogwarts Legacy879,308
Baldur's Gate 3875,343
Phantom Blade Zero822,361
Goose Goose Duckabout 703,000
Marvel Rivalsabout 644,000
Hollow Knight: Silksongabout 587,000

GamesRadar+ also says it passed Battlefield 6's Steam record. It hasn't caught Baldur's Gate 3, Hogwarts Legacy or Elden Ring yet.

How it got here

The launch didn't come out of nowhere. The game was first set for September 9, then pushed back about 50 days for extra polish. Pre-orders opened on August 11, and it topped Steam's wishlist chart for the year with around 1.6 million wishlists.

Analytics firm Alinea Analytics estimated about 300,000 Steam pre-orders within days of them opening, then roughly 850,000 pre-release sales across Steam and PS5 by launch. It said about 62.5% of those came from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Those are third-party estimates, not S-GAME figures, but they show the game had momentum before release.

The Black Myth: Wukong comparison

It's hard to avoid comparing it with Black Myth: Wukong, the last Chinese action game to break out like this. Wukong peaked at more than 2.4 million concurrent players on Steam in August 2024 and was reported to have sold about 10 million copies in its first few days.

So Phantom Blade Zero is well behind Wukong's pace. But Wukong is an outlier, one of the biggest launches Steam has ever seen. Back in August, Alinea put Phantom Blade Zero's pre-order pace at about 73% of Wukong's, and analysts noted the hype in China was more of a core-gamer thing than a mainstream event. Four million in three days is still a strong result next to almost anything else this year.

Price and editions

EditionSteam IndiaSteam US
Standard₹4,299$59.99
Digital DeluxeNot confirmed$69.99
Deluxe upgrade (DLC)Not confirmed$10

We couldn't confirm the PS5 price on the Indian PlayStation Store. On PC, the game uses Denuvo anti-tamper and needs about 145GB of storage. Steam's minimum spec asks for a GTX 1660 6GB or RX 5500 XT 8GB.

PC players have already been modding it, too. Our guide to how DLSS mods work covers how people added DLSS 5 to it within a day of launch.

What's still unknown

S-GAME hasn't said how the 4 million splits between PS5 and PC, whether it counts the Digital Deluxe upgrades, or what's next for the game. There's no announced DLC, and no Xbox or Switch 2 version.

The next number to watch is Baldur's Gate 3's Steam peak of about 875,000. If Phantom Blade Zero's weekend crowd keeps growing, that's the next record in reach.
