The short version
- Industry insider NateTheHate says Rockstar has started sending GTA 6 review copies to media outlets.
- He says the review embargo lifts on November 18, one day before the game's November 19 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- Insider Gaming says it has independently verified the date. Rockstar hasn't confirmed anything.
- If it holds, critics get about three weeks with the game, and you get one day of reviews before launch. The Standard Edition costs ₹5,999 ($79.99) in India.
What's been reported
On October 26, NateTheHate posted on X that Rockstar "have begun to distribute review code" for Grand Theft Auto 6, adding that the review embargo is November 18. Earlier this month he'd said codes hadn't gone out yet but would before October ended, so this is the follow-up to his own timeline.
Insider Gaming ran the claim the same day and said it could verify the date, without saying how. GameWatcher, Gameranx and GTA BOOM have all reported it since. All of them trace back to the same two sources, so this is one claim confirmed twice, not a pile of independent leaks.

How much should you trust it?
Fairly high, but it's still a report. NateTheHate was named leaker of the year for 2025 by a Reddit gaming leaks community, and his earlier GTA 6 calls held up, including the November release window. His misses have mostly been on Nintendo reveal dates. He also tends to say when something is a guess rather than a leak, and here he's stating it as fact.
What's missing is any word from Rockstar or Take-Two. No outlet has publicly confirmed it has a review copy in hand either, which is normal: embargoes often cover saying you've got the game, not just the review itself.
Why November 18 isn't a red flag
One day before launch sounds tight, but it's how Rockstar handled its last two big open-world launches:
| Game | Reviews went live | Launch | Metascore |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grand Theft Auto V (2013) | September 16, 2013 | September 17, 2013 | 97 (PS3) |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) | October 25, 2018 | October 26, 2018 | 97 (PS4) |
| Grand Theft Auto VI | November 18, 2026 (reported) | November 19, 2026 | ? |
So this fits a pattern. As our review embargo explainer covers, the worrying signs are reviews held until launch day or later, or copies sent so late that critics can't finish the game. Neither applies here, if the report is right.
The review window matters for a game this size. Copies going out around October 26 would give critics a little over three weeks before November 18. That should be enough time to finish the story and spend real time in the open world.

What it means if you've pre-ordered
GTA 6 costs ₹5,999 ($79.99) for the Standard Edition in India, and pre-orders have been open since June. A November 18 embargo gives you roughly a day to read reviews before the game unlocks.
Rockstar hasn't said what time reviews go live. Embargoes for global releases often lift in the morning US time, which would put reviews in the evening or late night of November 18 in India. Treat that as a likely pattern, not a confirmed time.
Watch the console versions closely too. Rockstar says the launch trailer was captured in-game on PS5, but reviews are where you'll first see how the game runs on Series S, base PS5 and PS5 Pro. Those performance details tend to matter more than the score itself.
What's still unknown
- The exact embargo time on November 18
- Which platform review copies are on, and whether Series S was included
- Whether there's a day-one patch, and if reviewers will have it
- Any word on PC. GTA 6 is still console-only, with a reported PC release in early 2027

What to watch next
Watch for Rockstar to announce the preload date and download size. After that comes the embargo lift itself. If you want to know what the scores will actually mean when they land, our guide to how Metacritic and OpenCritic work breaks it down.
